Well, with all time health eating, just like you like indulging once in a while why not your baby? 🙂

Butter – 55 gms
Golden syrup – 4 Tbsp*
Milk Chocolate – 100 gms
Cornflakes  / Riceflakes– 2 cups

  1. Melt butter, golden syrup and the milk chocolate in a double boiler**
  2. Stir and remove from the double boiler
  3. To it add cornflakes and stir well with a wooden spoon
  4. Spoon it carefully into muffin cases and leave it in the refrigerator for about an hour
  5. Use up the same day or store them in airtight container for later use

* you can use honey too
** the container needs to be placed in a pan with water. The ingredients get melted with the heat of the water and not through direct heat

Quite wholesome and a complete meal in itself for your toddler

Milk – 1 cup
Rice / rice flour – 2 tsps
Jaggery – 1 tbsp (grated)
Fresh fruit puree – 3-4 tbsp (strain it depending on the fruit you choose… strawberry, raspberry, peach, mango etc)

  1. In a non stick pan boil the milk and add rice / rice flour and cook till done (approximately 8-10 minutes)
  2. Add grated jaggery and mix till completely dissolved
  3. Cool and add the fruit puree.
  4. Serve at room temperature

Easy Apple and Banana Pudding Recipe

Apple and Banana Pudding

Introduce fruits to your kids in various forms…raw, soups or puddings!

Banana – ½ cup (chopped)
Apple – ½ cup (peeled and chopped)
Jaggery / brown sugar – 1 and ½ tbsp
Digestive biscuit – 1 no. (crushed)
Butter / ghee – ½ tsp

  1. Saute the fruits in butter till they are soft
  2. And crushed or grated jaggery and mix well till it gets dissolved
  3. Add the biscuit and stir for few minutes
  4. Serve lukewarm

Corn and Peas with cottage cheese

Corn and Peas with cottage cheese

You can have two variations – one for a toddler or year old baby….

Sweet corn – ¼ cup
Green peas – ¼ cup
Cottage cheese – ¼ cup
Onion – 1 Tbsp (finely chopped)
Garlic – 1 clove (finely chopped)
Mixed herbs – ¼ tsp
Butter – 1 tsp
Salt to taste

  1. Heat butter in a pan and sauté onion and garlic till you get an aroma
  2. Tip in corn, peas and little water and cook on low heat till the vegetables are done
  3. Add cottage cheese, herbs, salt and mix well
  4. Mash it well with a fork and serve it to your toddler
  1. In case the baby is slightly older you can add 1 boiled potato (mashed) and 1 Tbsp of bread crumbs and combine it all.
  2. Shape it in the form of cutlets. Use fancy shaped cookie cutters to make it interesting
  3. Fry on a non stick pan with about a dash of oil.
  4. Serve it with your kid’s favorite sauce

Palak Rice

Palak Rice

Take equal quantities of rice, chopped spinach (palak) and Grated Cottage cheese (paneer)

  1. Add ½ tsp of cumin seeds to ½ tsp ghee and let it crackle
  2. Add rice and sauté for about 3 minutes
  3. Add spinach, paneer, salt and 1 cup of water
  4. Pressure cook for about 2-3 whistles
  5. Serve with fresh yogurt

Spinach Pasta

Have some fun with Spinach which is loaded with nutrition.

A rich source of vitamin A (and especially high in lutein), vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, magnesium, manganese, folate, betaine, iron, vitamin B2, calcium, potassium, vitamin B6, folic acid, copper, protein, phosphorus, zinc, niacin, selenium and omega-3 fatty acids…

And a must have for your baby 🙂

Spinach – 4 tbsp (chopped)
Whole wheat pasta – 2 tbsp
Cottage cheese – 1 tbsp (grated)
Seasoning

  1. Boil water and cook pasta till done. Drain and keep aside
  2. Cook spinach in about ½ cup of water. Simmer and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes
  3. Add cooked pasta, cottage cheese, salt and pepper, mix well and bring it to a boil
  4. Serve lukewarm as it is or puree it first in a blender depending upon how old you baby is

Fruit and Vegetable Combination Soup

This is a variation to the soup with a slightly sweetish tinge to it…

Apple – 3 Tbsp (peeled and chopped)
Carrot – 2 Tbsp (washed, peeled and chopped)
Onion – 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Potato – 1 tbsp (washed, peeled and cubed)
Oil – 1 tsp
Water – 1 cup

  1. Sauté onions for about 2 minutes in a pressure cooker
  2. Add all the other ingredients and sauté for few more minutes
  3. Add water and pressure cook for 3 whistles
  4. Leave aside bring it to room temperature before blending it in a mixer
  5. Strain and serve lukewarm (re heat if required)

* straining might not be required if the baby is old enough
* try out different combination with cauliflower, beetroot, tomatoes, bottle gourd, French beans etc

Vegetable Soup

Ahem! Feeding kids anything green is no mean feat 🙂 To check out the chances if they eat what they actually cant see is worth the try!

Yellow Moong dal – 3 Tbsp
Carrot – 2 Tbsp (washed, peeled and chopped)
Potato – 1 tbsp (washed, peeled and cubed)
French beans – 2 nos (stringed and chopped)

  1. Combine all ingredients and pressure cook for 3 whistles or simply boil till the dal and vegetables are soft and done nicely
  2. Leave aside bring it to room temperature before blending it in a mixer
  3. Serve lukewarm (re heat if required)

Wheat porridge

Make things interesting for your baby by getting variations to his/her meals…..

Broken wheat / dalia – 1 tbsp
Dates – 2 nos (deseeded)
Milk – ¾ cup

  1. Cook broken wheat with dates in about ½ cup of water in a pressure cooker for about 3 whistles. Cool
  2. Blend this mixture in a mixer along with ½ cup of milk till smooth in texture
  3. Transfer into a pan and add ¼ cup of water and the remaining milk
  4. Bring to a boil and stir continuously avoiding any lumps
  5. Serve lukewarm

*you can try out the same recipe with other cereals like oats, millets etc

Bean Sprouts Dosa

High in Vitamin A sprouts are low on calories and very high on nutritional benefits. You can encourage your kids to have it in the form of healthy salad or make them some hot bean sprouts dosa!

Sprouted beans (moong) – 1 cup
Water – ¾ cup
Rice flour – 5 Tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil

  1. Grind to a fine paste bean sprouts along with water
  2. Add rice flour, salt and mix well
  3. Ensure the batter is devoid of any lumps. Add water if required to get a dropping consistency
  4. Leave the batter to stand for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Heat a non stick griddle (tawa) and pour in the centre of the griddle a ladle of batter and with help of the back of the ladle spread the batter evenly in circular motion.
  6. Drizzle little oil and allow it to cook
  7. The dosa automatically starts leaving sides when done on one side; turn it over and allow it to cook on the other side
  8. Fold and serve with sugar, jam, peanut butter or coconut chutney

*you can add fillings of your choice –  boiled and seasoned vegetables; seasoned cottage cheese etc!
